missing you before I'm gone

Life changes in a matter of days. Well actually, I'm sure life itself has not changed much, but rather our perspectives of it. It did not hit me for a long time that I am leaving soon, so I put off packing my bags; perhaps I was in denial of my imminent departure. It is a strange kind of feeling, to know that in a week everything will change. I went through high school seeing friends off to Australia and America, but I never considered how exactly it would feel from the other side.

Random objects are strewn across all surfaces in my room, random objects which I must choose whether to take with me or leave behind. And if I leave them behind, when will I see them next? Or will they be one of those things that are lost between relocations? I have a lot of precious things that have no use for me in college, so I am leaving them behind. But, I am scared that they might go missing before I come back, and I don't know if I would even remember which boxes I put them in, or if I would even remember if such precious things exist. I think I will take a small box of the most important memoirs even though it doesn't serve any purpose other than safekeeping...

As I count down my last days, I am constantly reminded of how amazing those people around me are. I haven't taken pics of everything cos I'm lazy but here are just some of the things that made me cry hahaha (if you follow me on instagram you'll already have seen these...):






Among other things I received which I haven't taken good photos of yet, including a Salvatore Ferragamo keychain from Vicky, Walker&Hall jewellery from Laina, a book about the internets from Karl, winneeeee from Cleo, an illustrated noobs guide to cooking from Rose/Jisu/Suzie, University of Auckland jumper & winter gearz (gonna keep me warm in winter :3) from Gur/Johan/Daniel/Tanush/Eric, homemade soap from Shirley, lovelyyyyy notebooks from Wenbo, Will, and Cherry/Vicky/Cathee/Renee and about a million cards and notes and in Firip's case written statement at the back of a Whitcoulls receipt that I will keep for life cos they filled my life with happy and sad tears ;__;

Honestly...  U GUYZZZZZ ): I'm going to try to pack as fast as I can so I have more time to spend with you stupid tear-inducing people before I leave and don't see your face for 4 months. Even though I haven't known you all for very long, it feels like we've been friends for ages. Reading your thoughtful notes and cards, I was really surprised that I am so close to some of you who I only met this year. I hope that my absence won't degrade that haha cos I honestly wish I met some of you sooner so we could have had more time together.

As for you people who have had to put up with me for half your/my life -- YOU CAN'T GET RID OF ME THAT EASILY :P haha but honestly, thanks for always being there for me... sometimes when you spend a lot of time with someone you don't realise how close you become, how much you grow to care for them and how much you actually love them. Because it's not that you took them for granted, you just never expected to ever have to leave them. This hit me like a fridge falling from the sky and I never, never want to lose you, no matter through thick or thin or all the water across the Pacific Ocean.

In the end, I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm tired and barely had 5 hours sleep last night and I couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to write this up because it was on my mind. My brain is fuzzy from the love I have for you my dear friends, I hope you're happy ♥

Anyway today was so nice, even though I did nothing really that exciting. When I came into school, there were all these balloons around with poems on them to celebrate poetry day, but couldn't help but feel like they were for me as well =P yeah I'm self centered, what can I say? 2 of my classes sang me happy birthday (french and physics, and in french they actually sang it in french :]), YJ and steph wrote me a happy birthday wish on the poetry wall, and I got lots of nice food from my friends~~ after school I went to eggs and helped out with backstage and I had lots of fun there as well ^^ even though terry and will were bullying me ): I helped them paint a door! :D so proud haha.

and then, when I came home, I had 80 emails from facebook with happy birthday comments~~ I felt so fuzzy inside ^^ and more came later this evening!! I took the time to say thank you to each and every one of them :]]]

mann today was fun. 2 hours was really short >< thanks to everybody who came, hope everyone had a lot of fun... a lot of people didn't come which left some people as loners-ish but everyone made a new acquaintance I guess.

will and tony are losers for playing arcade games while at ice skating. =P everyone had fun watching yj put snowballs down shirt hurhurhur. never saw it coming.... grats to harim and kenji for winning races, there were a lot of falls... but yeah all in all a pretty good day I guess. heaps of randoms, mainly jonathan's friends lol but pro. for everyone who stayed afterwards for cake you guys are awesome (: esp the losers who refused to eat cake coughrogerandarkarcough, I feel very satisfied after making you eat it.

and TIAN wooooo he went on the ice. that's accomplishment enough for him XD everyone was mixing really well lol I got confused in the beginning cuz I thought "wtf I thought they didn't know each other..." but yeah it's good that everyone talked to everyone (:

went to chinese, was so surprised when I came up and saw tian and jamie sitting there, like wtf. then after class, came downstairs, saw ella and tony and was like wtf again. everyone is now in the same building for chinese. pretty cool actually :3 and lol, my class only has 2 people now T_T

the bear bag & being yourself

At steph's request, here is a photo of the bag bernie got me :3 looks bigger in the photo than it actually is.

I was thinking again, as I do a lot in my spare time, and I came to the subject of personalities. Common advice given to anyone trying to socialise is that people usually like people with a good personality, right? Eg, if you're a bitch, grouchy, annoying then not many people will want to talk to you or get to know you.

However, also, we are told to "be yourself" and people will like us for who we are.

Does anyone see what I'm getting at now? What if 'yourself' is a bad personality? You can't expect people to like you if you're being yourself and you are naturally an annoying, unlikeable person. Although admittedly if you are an annoying unlikable person you usually wouldn't think of trying to portray yourself as something else because most of the time you don't realise, but that's not the point.

We as humans rarely follow our own advice of "be yourself" though. There are many instances where it would not be in your best interest to be yourself. For instance during an interview for a job, or a university application. If one were to be "be themselves", it would go a little like "Yes, I want a job here, don't ask me any more questions please and just hire me, thanks I'll get to work on monday."
or
"I'm interested in this university because then I can get a degree and don't end up as a bum on the street, and (possibly) because my parents will disown me if I don't. I have no interest in your 80 year history or contributing to your school, just accept me!"

It's not only a 'good personality' that attracts others though... outgoing people are just easier to talk to compared to antisocial, shy ones. so telling a shy person to "be themselves" isn't really going to work if they want to meet new people. sometimes you have to help them break out of their shell and get over their fear of people (not in every case, don't sue me).

Basically the advice to "be yourself" is 50% bs, since nobody follows it to its full extent anyway. I can understand if it's advice not to pretend to be someone else to gain favours, eg. pretending to be rich and successful to get a girlfriend/boyfriend because they will find out and then you're screwed, but apart from that it has next to no merit >> sometimes it's necessary to act a little different, break out of your comfort zone, to change and make yourself a better person. Experiment~

But then again one could argue that if you are willing to experiment and do that in the first place it is in your personality and thus you are being yourself by trying to change yourself. (did that even make sense)

but then that also means that the people pretending to be rich and successful etc are also being themselves because it's part of their personality to be willing to trick others or pretend to be someone they're not... kind of like they have the potential to do those kind of things, it's part of their personality. for example if a girl pretends to be rich, popular to get the guy she wants, but he finds out that she's been lying to him this whole time, he's unlikely to go back to her even if she returns to her 'normal' state ie. being modest because he knows what she's capable of, knows that she could lie to him anytime she wants. Although, someone could argue that people can change... but I think that no matter how much you change, your past is still a part of you and who you are, and definitely who you were. Eventually he could trust her, but nothing will change what she did in the past and the fact that she was capable of doing it.

actually you could just say the whole "be yourself" advice is redundant because no matter what you do you're still do an extent "being yourself" right?

I'm even more confused now than I was before... I guess what I can say to everyone is really just be what you want to be, noone else can do anything if you pretend to be someone else or not, and if you do it's noone else's fault if you get screwed over either. =P take responsibility for yourself and your actions, cuz noone else is gonna do it for you.

...I haven't updated in a while... although nothing much's happened. Met new people, got to know old people better, all in all a successful summer.

Although summer is officially not over yet, I have nothing better to do but to summarise the 16th summer of my life.

Well, I learnt a lot about myself. And I realised a lot of things that I already knew, but just didn't know I knew... Made a lot of progress on decision making and becoming a better person (well, 'better' in my opinion anyway). And I got more confident in myself ^^ in my personality and appearance.

I haven't lost 7kgs since the beginning of the holidays like I said I would ): but I lost 5. I played heaps of badminton these last few days. (william reminded me, so I wrote it here.) in fact I can't feel it when I'm still. but once I move, or try to get up after sitting for a long time, or try to sit down after standing/walking for a long time.... ohhh the pain ><

I fell behind a whole month on kumon. ...but you didn't hear that from me. <<; >>;

I didn't do any work from gamma, like I was supposed to. So I'm going to fail y12 maths ><

I'm sick of guys. I never thought I'd say this but... gahhhhhh there are too many. I'm just weak minded. and easily overcome by their likability. and looks... (including that cute badminton coach and the hot guy working at the pharmacy today, both of whom I would rate a 9 on william's 1-10 scale of hotness :D) but it's ok william, you know I love you <3 since you're too girly to be considered as a real guy anyway.

I didn't really get to know any new people apart from jiaqi, but I did remeet people I had contact with eg, william, jayden, clark, ming, tian and jamie

I went on a tramp (well, it does count as part of my summer =/)... actually, wow, it does seem like a while ago. I still remember our feeling as we got out of the bush on the 2nd day... "YESSSS MY SUMMER HOLIDAY IS BEGINNING NOWWWWW!!!!!!"

I watched my friends scull drinks in the middle of the road == (idiots)

I watched WALL-E~~~ its so cute <333 and other movies~ I played FF7 for 2 days and never touched it again, I started portal and still haven't finished it ...

I rewatched Yugioh Abridged and loled at jokes I didn't get before and do now (yay, growth in internet geekdom :D)

I found the FM radio setting on my phone and started listening to the edge again. and yes, I still suck at lyrics. (can only pick out the main ones...) also had a lot of fun with my auntie, uncle and cousin when they came over ^^ (this is related to the above point because it was my auntie who told me I had a FM radio setting o_o).

When I saw my uncle, it was my immediate reaction to call him 肥叔叔 (fat uncle). OTL lol, it was my nickname for him when I was younger. Apparently, I was the one who made it up @__@ man, what a sad child I was.

I was sad because most of my friends were overseas and away ))):

I made fluke pro shots in pool. and even more noob to the point of pro shots in pool (flying white ball while breaking anyone? @_@)

I STARTED TAKING CHARGE. yeah that's right. If i want something, I now go and get it, instead of being passive and waiting for it to come to me. this has backfired on me a lot == but I'm working on it~

when I was young and stupid (er)

Well yesterday was my birthday, and I'm officially 15 now. So I can legally start driving and kill myself lolol. >: ok maybe not.

It's like 11pm but I really felt like updating closer to my bday haha >< today I'm gonna share some stories of when i was young and stupid (don't you guys love these stories)

ok... well once, I was in like y1 and we were making mothers day cards or something. And I got this orange piece of paper, and my friend had this blue piece. being the snobby 5 year old ass I was, I snidely said (probably in an uppity voice) "Haha shame look I got a girl's colour and you got a boy's colour~~" and then my friend did the whole grass thing and went up to the teacher and was like "ms ____, are there such things as girl colours and boy colours?" and the teacher was like "no there aren't, all colours are just colours." and then my friend stuck out her tongue at me ): thats why I don't have a favourite colour anymore lolol. I don't want to be biased and turn back into my stupid 5 year old self.

in y2, me and this boy were like pushing lego bricks under one of the folding walls in the classroom and giggling really loudly and then the teacher was like "winnieeeeee............" in her whole disapproving stare tone thing. and back then I was like so shy D: so I was so embarrassed and felt bad about it for like 2 weeks after that occurred.... also in y2, we had a reliever and we were doing something with paper, and I couldn't like cut it or something, so I went to the teacher and asked her to do it for me... and I didn't say 'please' or something, so she gave me this whole big lecture and I burst into tears ): I hate that reliever. she was the bitch that called me a little boy.

in y3, I remember in chinese school I had to write my birthdate and I couldn't remember what year I was born, but I knew it had like 1 9 and 3. so I took a wild guess and wrote down 30 July 1339.

in y4, I was made to dance with this creepy korean boy in my class (because I was too tall lol...) and the teacher was like "ok now hold hands" and we were both liek "rafjdslkjawefsklsflaskadsf. nooooo." and the teacher was like "are you going to do this or not? if you don't want to I can get you to clean the classroom or something..." DDD: I WAS MORTIFIED OK I was such a goodie goodie omfg lol I was scared of her for like the whole term.

in y5 I wrote many retarded stories about neopets. Don't make me retype them please lolol...
