DAY 09: Something you're proud of in the past few days

I can't believe I actually went to school every day last week just to do art. And then, I actually studied today. That's pretty amazing considering my procrastination record. That being said, I somehow managed to find time to download the new episodes of gossip girl, watch a few movies, fish out some new clothes from the garage that we never unpacked and wash them (it was like shopping, except from clothes you already own :O we had so many lol, but like half of them were hideous, I took the nice-ish ones), spend time with friends, eat chocolate, and play A LOT of bejeweled... Hahaha work hard play hard? (but in my case it's like work hard play harder...)

Btw Alex Pettyfer is gorgeous :)

I might draw this one in my spare time hahahaha... Although I should actually be drawing the rest of the 100 people I haven't finished yet...

DAY 08: Short term goals for this month and why.

I'm going to define 'this month' as the next 30 days. I guess I will try to finish the 30 day challenge lol, because it's what I do...? I'll study for my exams, because I want to ace my exams. I will ace my SAT II, because I studied, and I will ace my school exams, because I studied, and be awesome as I usually am, because I usually am.

Now I'm going to talk about the world of the internet. It's actually almost like an alternate world, you always hear about people getting sucked into their virtual WoW lives or w/e and ignoring the real world. But actually the internet has a huge influence on our lives whether we like it or not. Although some people wouldn't like to admit it, since it's something that does not technically exist; the internet world is like a fantasy. But as Kyle from South Park once said,

...It's all real. Think about it. Haven't Luke Skywalker and Santa Claus affected your lives more than most real people in this room? I mean, whether Jesus is real or not, he... he's had a bigger impact on the world than any of us have. And the same could be said of Bugs Bunny and, a-and Superman and Harry Potter. They've changed my life, changed the way I act on the Earth. Doesn't that make them kind of "real." They might be imaginary, but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around long after we're dead. So in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

K so it's not exactly fitting here, but you get the point. The internet affects our daily lives in ways we don't even realise. 1 in 14 people in the world have a facebook account. That's about 500 million people... In a world where you no longer ask for a guy's number when you meet them but add him on facebook, after having stalked his page and going through his photos many times prior to meeting him, it's practically impossible to be kept in the loop if you don't have a facebook profile. I mean I know people who don't have fb pages, and I'm sure a lot of you do too, because they don't want to be mainstream or something, but it's becoming more and more of an actual necessity. It's how we get our news and contact our friends. Within half an hour of the Christchurch earthquake, before the media had even heard about it yet, I had posts on my front page, "OMG EARTHQUAKE!" "HOLY CRAP THAT WAS A MASSIVE QUAKE" "Anyone else feel something just then?"

Of course it's not healthy to ONLY communicate over facebook, but it's really something that it seems 90% of everyone I meet has. These days I hear a lot "oh I think I've seen you around on facebook" or "it was cool to meet you, I'll add you on facebook." It's practically an assumption that strangers on the street will have a facebook. If you search the names of anyone you know in nz, chances are they will turn up on facebook. Seriously, even the models off NZ's next top model. I know, my friend tried it.

Then, as you would serve fries and coke with a hamburger, there are the side dishes to the main meal of facebook as well. Things like twitter, blogspot, tumblr, formspring. Not everyone has one, but a lot of people do, and usually if your friends have one then you'll get one too. Social networking is really becoming huge. I remember when everyone was into bebo, I had about 100 friends; within the first 3 weeks of everyone joining facebook it had grown to 250. Social networking can't work without the people; I got a facebook during the bebo phase, and I had like 8 friends for a long time before everyone got into it. It's kind of like an MMORPG, not fun unless everyone plays.

I sometimes wonder what it will be like in the future when the internet no longer exists. It seems far fetched but actually I'm sure something will eventually come about that renders the internet obsolete. DAY 06: Favourite superhero and why

It must be Batman :) Although some say he is not technically a superhero since he doesn't have any extraordinary 'powers' and relies on all his gadgets to do everything, it takes a real genius to invent all that stuff and be able to use it :P superhuman intelligence and strength is a superpower I guess. I really like his story as well. But yeah, there are a lot of superheroes I like @_@ Others would be Iron Man (cuz he's such an asshole when not saving the world), Angel (He has wings :O), Shadowcat (idk I just found her short lived romance in xmen evolutions with avalanche cute haha..) & THE POWERPUFF GIRLS :D because bleedman made them awesome.

Where would we all be without our brains? :) they are the things that govern our very being and personalities, how we perceive and respond to things... although there has been some evidence that memories are also stored in the heart & there is controversy over the existence of the human soul, I think it's safe to say that our brains are pretty significant to all of us haha. Hmm, apart from that, my week of art is finally over! I can finally start studying, although it's really daunting to think that exams are so close and I have SATs in 2 weeks... AAAA... and my calculator is running low on batteries again and chen still has my batteries.... must get new batteries...

It's good that the weather is getting better, I think the storm has pretty much blown over, today was really warm :) Great start to daylight savings~~

& I really like linkin park's new song 'waiting for the end'... but not 'the catalyst'. I kinda miss the old LP but some of their new songs are still really good.

Yeah I guess that's all for now. I want to hang out with friends more often since it's the holidays and all but yeah, gotta study... and it's weird because some people still haven't seen me and don't recognise me still hahahaha. It's kinda awkward at times x_x

Oh my gosh I haven't been on blogspot for 2 days and then when I came on today, since everyone's doing the 30 day thing it took me half an hour to go through everyone's updates @_@

ANYWAY... I really should just update every day to save myself the trouble lol.

DAY 04: A habit you wish you didn't have

dammit mousehunt's down again wtf. and fb was down this morning as well -- k sorry about that, I had to sound my horn. Anyway, I wish I wasn't on facebook so much, I wish I would stop playing tetris and bejeweled so I would actually have time to study and I wouldn't see falling blocks and jewels before I go to sleep every night, I wish I didn't have to go to school so much to do art. Oh wait that's not really a habit. I don't know, I'm just rambling now.

DAY 02/DAY 03 + a(ic)sian talent show

Look, it's so bad I can't even get the first 2 days consecutive. So today I'll do a double for you guys, since they're both short. Yeah I don't care that it's meant to be a little at a time, it's my blog and I do what I want :l

02: the meaning behind your blogspot name:

username or blog name..? lol might as well do both. My username ZMALLET came from a few years ago when I needed to make a new email address because my old one had too many randoms on msn that I never talk to (ironically I think now I have more), and I wanted a unique username that I could use anywhere online that was unlikely to be taken. At that time I happened to be thinking of mallets so I used mallet, and the 'z' is the french accented definite participle ie. The mallet = ze mallet = zmallet. And I've used it ever since. Although the reason this one is under xzmallet and not zmallet is because when I started this blog I realised that I had already created zmallet.blogspot.com like agesss ago, and I'd forgotten the pw. Since then I've converged my old zmallet.blogspot.com to this account, and if you actually visit it you will get redirected back here haha.

As for the blog name, tori no tsubasa means bird's wing in japanese. Cuz I used to be a japanophile of sorts I suppose (anime and manga days...) and it just kinda stuck... since I cbf retyping, just quote this from one of my previous posts:

Personally, I've always imagined myself to be a bit like the caged bird ... There are a lot of us who haven't realised our full potential but know that it's out there somewhere, but can't see a way through the chaos of reality to reach it. Our wings may not be clipped and our feet not tied but the cage door is shut. I guess some way or another we're all seeking a way to open the cage door and fly away like a free bird. Actually this is the thought that made me name my blog after birds. When I started, this blog was meant to be a timeline of my growth and maturity as I gathered enough strength to fly out of my own cage. I don't think I'm quite there yet, but life's certainly been an adventure since I started this blog 2 years ago :] Hopefully one day I too can claim the sky as my own.

Anyways, onto general update. Last night I went to see AIC's talent show which ran for 3 hours and I got home at like 11, which is why I didn't have time to update yesterday (yeah winnie, excuses), and it was really entertaining! But yeah, it was soooo asian, like I swear some people actually looked identical, and I kept thinking I saw people I know when actually it's just people who look like them... and all the dance groups were korean. The winner of the dance battle was this group if you want to watch. Crossdressing guys dancing... ofc no competition =P

Congrats to Song for winning the music section... totally engrossed in his piano playing, so pro that I couldn't even look away @_@

In the bands section we were just dancing and jumping around, it was actually really tiring XD but really fun!! Haha I haven't exercised in so long that my calves kinda hurt this morning -noob-... Thanks guys for inviting me to come (:

30 Day Challenge. DAY 01

Just because I saw it everywhere, and it's just begging me to do it. (that's what she said...) K actually it's from Tumblr but whatever, blogspot will suffice, even though I actually do have a tumblr, I just never use it because it's too twitter-like for my liking.

That makes today DAY 01. I make no promises to do this every day lololol, but every time I update I'll do one of these I guess. Just whenever I have time... since I'm meant to be working this whole week on art... @_@ even tho it's my holiday... ): no rest for me.

DAY 01: A RECENT PICTURE AND 15 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT MYSELF?

I don't know what you think constitutes as 'interesting', seeing as I'm a pretty boring person...

1. I get excited when I see people playing awesome music, and I can feel how fun it would be to play it myself, except I'm actually music noob. But right now I'm trying to learn a chopin piece on piano, because it sounds awesome, but tbh I think I'll give up halfway through as usual as I lose motivation... this is actually also the reason I have a guitar, even though I can't even play. I should really just get rid of it lol...

2. I'm kind of addicted to Mousehunt.

3. Oh gosh, this is hard. ...I think everyone has a good side and bad side to them? I have never hated anyone, and although that may or may not be because I am extremely lucky and haven't yet met anyone worth hating, I guess personal perception has to have a lot to do with it as well.

4. I would rather wait until after a show has aired on TV to watch it on TV on demand online because the ads are shorter and so I don't have to exit the comfort of my room.

5. Sometimes I lie so much that I start believing my own bs

6. I used to be really into anime and manga, but I kind of ran out of time for it... My best year was 2006. I was form 2 when nothing ever had to be done. I think I got through 14 anime that year...

7. I suck at video games, unless it's Pokemon. Btw my favourite pokemon is jolteon.

8. Halfway! Um... right now I'm reading Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind. Recently finished Confessions of a Shopaholic. It was a pretty good chickflick-like unintelligent book to read haha.

10. I have cravings for italian roast tomato and balsamic sakatas from time to time. I had some yesterday. They were nice.

11. I do crazy stuff when I'm bored... like roll around on tables and offer to draw portraits for 100 people, rewrite whole books, STUDY, annoy strangers, make movies, take apart my phone, put my phone back together... anything to stay occupied I suppose.

12. Favourite colours I have had in the past include orange, lime green, lavender, turquoise, blue, 'amethyst purple' (when I thought that naming colours after gemstones was sophisticated and cool), red and white.

13. I only really got into listening to music when I was like 13. The first few songs on my ipod were In the End & My December by Linkin Park, Bring me to life by Evanescence, Konayuki/9th March by Remioromen, Toxic by Britney Spears and Tornado by Jay Chou.

14. I accidentally stole a book from Kahunui because I was reading it while I was down there and I forgot that I left it in my bag. It's still sitting on my bookshelf. It's Duet by David Hill. It's about a guy who plays guitar who meets a girl in his orchestra and accidentally knocks her up. pretty much.

15. I tend to loop my recently added playlist on itunes. This means that I pretty much never listen to songs that are more than 2 months old on my list. LOL... well actually that's not true, when I get sick of my recently added songs I just put my entire library on shuffle. Right now I have... 1180 songs which will play for 3.6 days in my library. My ipod would take over a week to play all my songs. Unfortunately the battery only lasts like 6 hours and my ipod has problems so it randomly self shuts down every so often...

Friends are like numbers

Today my friend and I thought of something ingenious: Friends are like numbers. Once you get past the initial reaction of OMG YOU GUYS ARE SUCH NERDSSSS, let me elaborate because maths is actually surprisingly very applicable to social relationships and humans in general.

There are sooooo many people in the world that you can make friends with. So many that it seems like there are an infinite number... there are rational people and irrational people... simple people and complex people, odd people, positive people and negative people... you get people who like to eat pie and end up a bit more round, like pi, and the thinner, more eccentric people... and there are people who are mysterious and no one really knows what they're up to, like e. Sometimes you might meet acute guy or girl, although they may turn out to be more obtuse than you thought. But it's perfect when you get it just right.

Some people are more curvy than others. And some are more straight than others.

There might be someone who is exactly like you, but you travel in parallel directions and don't take the time to look around; as a consequence, you never actually meet... Opposites attract.

Once you get to know someone well enough, you might memorise their digits ;)

There are roots to every friendship... usually they're positive, but the more you try to remember the roots of a negative friendship, the more imaginary the beginning seems to have been...

You can have real friends and imaginary friends, some friends are natural, some friends are complementary. Some friends are absolute, and having friends like those makes you feel positive... whereas others are variable. There are lines (asymptotes) that shouldn't be crossed in any friendship. Relationships have highs and lows, like a sin or cos graph, and differences between friends can cause a friendship to diminish to nothing... or take a turn for the negative. Complex friendships have more arguments.

It takes two to form a friendship, and 2 is <3 :)

& btw... you're my number 1.

Strange things that make me sad

I quite like eggs. Usually when I have eggs I'm happy. But when I'm having a hardboiled egg over breakfast and some of the yolk drops into my milk and disperses so that it looks like my milk has some flaky yellow skin disease, it makes me sad.

When I was younger, I used to lie on the couch in the living room when I had nothing else to do, kind of like in the picture below:

I would imagine what it would be like to live in a world that worked upside down, and how the lamps would be like giant flowers, and how you'd have to step over the piece of wall between the ceiling and the door frame every time you entered a new room, and thought about how I'd trip over it pretty often because sometimes this portion of wall would be quite big because the doors in our house at that time were quite short, and how it would be weird going 'upstairs' because it would be like going 'downstairs' and there would be no stairs, just a slanted ramp. And then I thought about what it would be like to go outside, and realised that you'd just fall into the sky. Then I got sad.

As I got older, I started keeping diaries and only using my sparkly gel pens in them because they were special and deserved to be used in special ways. I'd alternate red - orange - yellow - green - blue - purple - pink gel pens each day because then it created a pretty rainbow effect over the week. This turned out not to work too well, because the yellow didn't show up well, so my entries on Wednesdays would always be shorter because I couldn't read what I was writing, and my entries on Fridays would be the longest because I really liked that shade of blue, and then my blue ran out before the other colours and I couldn't write in my diary every day anymore because of that, and it made me sad.

I actually never finished filling out any of the notebooks I used for my diaries either. And I lost one of the ones with the most memories because I had to hide it because it contained a lot of private feelings, but then I forgot where I hid it. That makes me kind of sad too now I guess.

When it rains I get sad.

When I got to the age that I realised the world was not a nice place and that the TV was kind of like the mirror in that R L Stein novel where the images in the mirror are actually reality, I got sad because of all the bad things that were happening behind the panel of glass. I guess that's not really a strange thing to get sad over now that I think about it though.

I got sad when I released the purple helium balloon into the sky from Lucy's leaving party last year and I watched it for about 10 minutes as it became a dot in the sky, and then I blinked and then I couldn't find it in the sky anymore.

I also got sad when I was driving into school the other day and saw 2 helium balloons stuck in a tree because they'd never become dots in the sky like my one.

Once I was so happy that I cried, and then couldn't work out if I was actually happy or sad, and then I got sad and cried some more.

There are a lot of things that make me sad. Some of them are pretty common things to get sad over and some of them are quite insignificant. Some people might think that I'm strange, but I really was sad this morning when that hardboiled egg dropped into my milk.
